How I got involved
I have always wanted a Land Rover
Discovery 2 300 TDI; however I thought that they were very expensive and always
decided against it.
It was the early death at the end of 1996 of a work colleague who was due for retirement that propelled me to go for one. Life is too short.

Therefore in February 1997 I decided on a
Discovery 2, 300TDI 1995 model. At this stage I had no intentions of going on
any rugged off road adventures in my 4x4.
I started to buy LandRover Owners International magazine, and it was reading the stories in the magazine that I developed an interest in going off road and places far-off.
In May 2005 I had taken early retirement from my job. I also purchased a new Land Rover Discovery 3s (manual gearbox). The difference between the two Land Rovers is chalk and cheese. Again I had no intentions of going on any rugged off road adventures in my 4x4.
In fact, my Land Rover Discovery is sitting in my driveway right now... but it won't be on tarmac for long. I'm getting it ready for my next adventure!

idea of built-in obsolescence in mind. There was a shortage of steel
and other materials so these vehicles had to be operative for as long
as possible. It is this "atomic age" appreciation of value and
durability that helps make this such a durable and also remarkably
agile vehicle in the end. 
I have to say that it was the history and tradition behind the Land Rover's construction that ultimately convinced me that it was the off-road vehicle of choice!

I had a very lucky escape
when taking my Land Rover Discovery over rough terrain in Morocco... I
got away with doing thousands of pounds worth of damage
when I was traversing what is normally a very shallow stream.
